March Educational Seminar:

U.S./Canadian Cross-Border Estate Planning

Join us on March 26th from 11:30am-1:30pm at Morgan Lewis with speakers Kristy Balkwell, Rahul Sharma and Martin Rochwerg.

Many cross-border planning issues arise involving Canada, when a US citizen resides in Canada, hold Canadian investments, inherits from or marries a Canadian,  a U.S. trust includes a Canadian or future Canadian as a beneficiary, or Canadian becomes a dual resident. The presentation will highlight from a Canadian perspective some of the planning considerations for probate, income tax, and estate and gift tax purposes for 2018 after major Tax Reform for 2018 in both countries.

Speakers:

  • Kristy Balkwill is a Partner of Miller Thomson, has an LLM in Tax, is a member of STEP New York, and the Chair of the Finance Committee of Skate Canada (sponsor of Gold Medal skating team at the PyeongChang 2018 Olympics). Read full bio here.
