Session 1: Income Tax Planning with Delaware Incomplete Non-Grantor  (DING) Trusts

Moderator: Amy Lonergan, Partner, Day Pitney, LLP

Description:  Amy will address the structure and the income tax benefits of “DING” trusts including reducing or eliminating state and local income tax on appreciated assets in a world after the 2017 tax act and dramatically increasing the capital gain exemption on Qualified Small Business Stock.

Session 2: Ten Things to Know in  Talking to Your Kids About Prenups

Moderator: Christine Fletcher, Partner, Burns Levinson

Description: Christine will discuss how to properly advise the family when members of the second or third generation decide to marry.    Often, advice in protecting the family’s assets is at odds with the young couple’s pleas of how in love they are.  She will discuss the 10 topics that should be raised in discussing prenuptial agreements with clients.

Session 3: Pre-Liquidity Planning

Moderator: Jessie Foster, CFP and Adam Beard, First Republic Investment Management

Description: Stockholders of pre-liquidity companies are often approached after their companies have gone public or sold. However, there are many planning strategies than can be implemented prior to a distribution event. Join Jessie for a discussion of the various strategies that can help clients minimize taxes, leverage gifts, minimize potential gift taxes, and gift future appreciation while maintaining control over investments.

Session 4: Everything You Want to Know About College Admission and Financial Aid and How it Relates to Estate Planning

Moderator: Larry Danenberg, College Solutions

Description: The typical family will be investing between $120,000 and $275,000 per child to send their child to college.  This is the largest single expense most families face.  Learn how you can help them with this investment decision.  Learn how UTMAs, 529s, 401Ks, whole-life, annuities, debts, personal and business assets are treated for financial aid purposes.  Business ownership, divorce/separation makes the college process even more difficult.  But there are opportunities if the family understands the process, which Larry will discuss.

Description: Brad will discuss the following questions: When we look at the economy and the markets, what do we worry about?  And what should we worry about?  Are they the same?  His talk will examine what we do worry about and why we shouldn’t, and look at what really matters in order to plan effectively.
