Getting the Greatest “Bang for Your Buck” with Philanthropy

Description:
We are pleased that Tiziana Dearing will join us at our next meeting.  She will share her research, insights, and experience in discussing how we can get the best bang for our charitable buck.  She will explore questions such as:  How should we approach the non-profit landscape and assess where our grant money might be best used? How can we discern the organizations offering innovative solutions or most effectively serving their clients? And how should we prepare ourselves to engage in a respectful exchange of ideas with those we seek to support?

Presenter:

Tiziana C. Dearing, Professor for Macro Practice, Boston College

Tiziana Dearing is on faculty at the Boston College School of Social Work, and a national voice on social impact, social justice, inequality and poverty.   She teaches in social innovation and leadership, co-directed the Center for Social Innovation for five years, and is the co-founding Director of Research in Social, Economic and Environmental Equity (RISE3).

Tiziana was the start-up Chief Executive Officer of Boston Rising, a fund to end the generational cycle of poverty in Boston neighborhoods.  Prior to leading Boston Rising, Tiziana served as the first woman President of Catholic Charities for the Archdiocese of Boston.  She also has served as Executive Director of the Hauser Center for Nonprofit Organizations at Harvard University.  In the 1990s, Tiziana was a management consultant for Fortune 500 businesses and mission-driven organizations. She got her start in microlending with low-income women in Chicago.
